This article is about steps to guide you in installing Drupal 8 on a local machine. Here you will find step wise instructions, screenshots and explanations of each step involved in the installation. If you are new to Drupal 8 and doesn't have any idea about it, it's fine, you are in the right place.

Prerequisite for installing Drupal 8

First of all you need Apache, Mysql and PHP on your local system. If you are using windows syste,m you can download WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL and PHP) or xampp (Cross-Platform (X), Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl) as per your system specification. If you are using Mac, you can download MAMP and for Linux users you can install LAMP stack from command line. Once you have installed the right software on your system. You are ready to install Drupal 8.

Download Drupal 8

Goto and download the latest version of Drupal 8. Downloading latest version is always beneficial as it has several updates over other previous version which will make your web application more safe and secure.

Extract the downloaded file and place it inside document root folder. For all the softwares this document root is different like for WAMP may be it will be something like "C:/wamp/www/" or for XAMPP it will be "C:/xampp/www/htdocs/". In linux it will be something like "/var/www/html" or "/var/www". Figure out your root directory and place the Drupal 8 codebase in that. Rename the Drupal 8 code base to your project name.

Installing Drupal 8

Finally, now you are ready for the installation process. Open browser and run http://localhost/<project_name&gt;. It will open a wizard form and now you have to read the instructions mentioned in the wizard and follow installation instructions. In the first screen you will find "Choos Language" option.

Click "Save and continue" button and in the next step you need to choose from 2 options "standard" and "minimal". Choose Standard and save.

Now, in the next step you will most probably see some Requirement Problems. It may or may not come, depending upon your systems permissions. If this comes try to resolve them first and after that you will see proceed the the next step.

Once, you have resolved all the requirement problems, you will see next step form, and it asks for Database Configurations. You need to provide Database name (This should be unique and new name). Database credentials and from the Advanced options you can choose table prefix.

Drupal installation - Step 4

Now, After providing all these details you will see installation process going on, and after that the last step of installation wizard come on your screen. Here you are supposed to provide details of your new Drupal 8 Site. Details like: Site name, email address, username, password, country timezone etc. Basically here you need to create a admin user which will have access to all the Drupal 8 website. Once you provided all these details and saved it. You are done.
